To achieve the 2030 carbon reduction targets, the Alltech, an American multinational in the animal and plant nutrition sector, is investing in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

In 2021, the company already installed, for example, a photovoltaic system at the factory in Serdan,
located approximately 190 km southwest of Mexico City.

“Our unit in Serdan was the logical choice to host our first solar energy project due to the high solar irradiation, a result of its latitude, high altitude and little precipitation,” said the company in a statement.

The photovoltaic system will provide 46% of the energy needed at Alltech in Serdan. With the new plant, the manufacturer saved 22% in energy expenses in the first year, and achieved a reduction of 650 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

This reduction, according to the multinational, is equivalent to 11 thousand tree seedlings growing over 10 years. In addition to installing the photovoltaic plant, the factory is switching from using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to using compressed natural gas (CNG), a more environmentally beneficial fuel.

“The project will result in a reduction in the ecological footprint of the Serdan unit. CNG emits 30% less carbon dioxide and 65% less carbon monoxide than LPG. Furthermore, nitrous oxide emissions are very low, and there are no emissions of sulfur or heavy metals”, highlighted Alltech.
