National electricity consumption totaled 63.322 MWmed in July, an increase of just 0,4% compared to the same period in 2022. According to the CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber), the result was driven by consumption in the residential and commercial categories , influenced by the increase in temperatures in the North and Northeast regions, which led to greater use of air conditioning devices.

The regulated market registered an increase of 0,8%. The free market changed positively by 0,4%, a situation that reflects lower production in the automotive, chemical and textile industries.
“For the automotive segment, specifically, the shutdown of factories and the granting of collective holidays led to a 16% reduction in production, according to data from the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers – Anfavea. The drop in energy demand would be even greater, but it was mitigated by the two-wheel segment. The subclasses related to the manufacture of motorcycles registered an increase of 9,2% in electricity consumption”, highlights the CCEE.
Of the 15 branches of economic activity monitored by CCEE, there was an increase in energy consumption in seven, with emphasis on the extraction of metallic minerals, food and beverages.

Regional consumption
Warmer temperatures in July pushed consumption up in several states, especially in Maranhão, Amazonas and Sergipe. The opposite scenario, of cold and greater rainfall, reduced demand in other regions.

Power generation
Wind farms delivered 19,7% more electricity to the SIN (National Interconnected System) in July, compared to the same period last year. Photovoltaic projects, in turn, registered an expansion of 65,4%. The hydraulic source showed a decline of 7,8%.
