O MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) and the ONS (National Electric System Operator) announced the expansion of drainage capacity of the energy generated in the region Northeast, where most of the production is concentrated solar and wind energy the country.
The expansion aims to boost the flow of these two energy sources, reducing restrictions and ensuring more security to without (National Interconnected System).
“With the entry into operation of new transmission lines, the exchange limits between the subsystems of the Northeast to the Southeast/Central-West and North regions were significantly expanded”, highlighted the MME.
The Ministry also assesses that the expansion of the transmission system is fundamental for the energy transition and highlights that the measure will guarantee a more efficient and reliable electrical system, with benefits for the whole of society.
In addition to expanding transmission capacity, the Ministry reported that the ONS also implemented improvements in the processes for defining generation restrictions.
In the MME's assessment, this measure, combined with the new transmission lines, should help to minimize the impacts of the restrictions, to ensure a more efficient use of energy generated in the Northeast and a more sustainable and safe energy future for Brazil.
Transmission lines
Last Friday (25), the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) announced the qualification of the winners of the 2nd Transmission Auction of 2024, as published in DOU (Official Diary of the Union).
The auction, held on September 27 at the B3 headquarters in São Paulo, resulted in the purchase of all lots, totaling iInvestments estimated at R$ 3,35 billion.
The event is part of a Government strategy to strengthen the country's electrical infrastructure. The auction result is expected to be approved on November 12, with contracts being signed on December 13.
New transmission lines will be implemented in six states: Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, São Paulo and Santa Catarina. The terms for commercial operation vary between 42 and 60 months depending on the lot.
