The NotreDame Intermédica Group (GNDI) announced that it has signed a contract with EDP for the installation of four photovoltaic solar plants. The goal is to ensure the supply of 60 of the company's clinical centers. According to the companies, the plants to be installed will occupy a combined area of more than 155 m² – the equivalent of 15 soccer fields – and will use 8.361 modules.
Together, the plants will total 4,4 MWp of power and will generate approximately 8.350 MWh per year. According to EDP, this means that GNDI will save an estimated R$1,2 million on its energy bill in its first year of operation. Furthermore, the supply contract will last 10 years, with an investment of R$20 million for the construction of the projects.
“This program is a way of reducing the environmental impact of the company's activities and also of encouraging a culture of responsible use of our natural resources”, stated Irlau Machado Filho, president of the NotreDame Intermédica Group.
“EDP’s mission is to lead the energy transition, hence the importance of investments in solar generation – whether in distributed or centralized generation – in our strategy”, said João Marques da Cruz, CEO of EDP in Brazil.
For Anderlei Buzelli, vice president of ESG at Grupo NotreDame Intermédica, the project actively promotes energy efficiency in clinical centers, which will see a reduction of around 20% in electricity costs. “With this initiative, we will produce clean energy without impacting the environment. The technology used by EDP has the lowest possible impact and is linked to our values and our commitment to sustainability, especially in the fight against climate change,” added the executive.
EDP photovoltaic projects
EDP has a unit dedicated to implementing solar self-generation and distributed generation projects, which is responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the systems. The company ended 2020, for example, with 65,3 MWp of solar energy in its portfolio – 34,5 MWp in projects already delivered to clients such as Banco do Brasil, TIM, Claro and Johnson & Johnson, and 30,8 MWp in programs under development.
In February, it also announced the acquisition of AES Inova, which adds 34 MWp to EDP Smart's portfolio through assets located in Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo and Minas Gerais.
