The ONS (National Electric System Operator) projects that the country's energy load will reach 88.113 MW on average in February, representing a growth of 5,8% compared to the same month in 2024.
At the beginning of the month, the estimate was for an increase of 3,7%, but the accelerated increase reflects the increase in electricity consumption due to heat waves, driven mainly by the intensive use of air conditioning.
Among the subsystems, the South is expected to register the highest growth in energy load, with an increase of 8,6% (16.909 MW average). For the other regions, the projections are:
- Southeast/Central-West: +6,4% (50.050 MW average)
- North: +4% (7.660 MW average)
- Northeast: +1,5% (13.494 average MW)
The ONS guarantees that the electrical system is prepared to meet demand safely. Since January, three records of instantaneous demand have been registered in the SIN (National Interconnected System): 102.810 MW (January 22), 103.335 MW (February 11) and 103.785 MW (February 12).

Projections for rainfall and reservoir storage
The ONS PMO (Monthly Operations Program) bulletin for the week of February 15-21 indicates projections above 80% of the MLT (Long-Term Average) for inflows in all subsystems. The highlights are:
- North: 111% of MLT;
- Northeast: 90% of MLT;
- Southeast/Central-West: 84% of MLT;
- South: 81% of MLT.
Stored Energy (EAR) levels at the end of the month should exceed 70% in three subsystems:
- North: 96%;
- Northeast: 81%;
- Southeast/Central-West: 70,5%;
- South: 50,4%.
