A Panasonic do Brasil announced an agreement with Pontoon Clean Tech for the construction of a R$ 1.6 billion solar plant by 2023.

The project will supply 65% of consumption from the factory located in Extrema (MG) and will have an installed capacity of 500 MWp, between 935 thousand panels, on a plot of land measuring more than one thousand hectares.

The self-generation project is part of a 15-year contract between the two companies.

The plan is for around 65% of the total energy consumed by the company in Brazil to come from solar sources from 2024 onwards, through the construction of the Intrepid solar complex in the municipality of Mauriti (CE).

The works are expected to be completed by the end of 2023 and aim to generate more than 4,000 direct and indirect jobs for the local community.

Aiming to meet environmental goals by 2050, the Minas Gerais plant is one of several actions that are part of Panasonic's global ESG agenda.

According to the company, partnerships that open up other sources (of energy) help the country to not be so dependent on thermoelectric plants.
