Enel Green Power Brasil, the renewable generation arm of Enel Brasil, announced the start of commercial operation of São Gonçalo III solar park - The second expansion of the photovoltaic complex of the same name, located in the municipality of São Gonçalo do Gurguéia (PI).

With the new 256 MW section, the enterprise achieved a total installed capacity in operation of 864 MW. The construction of the complex involved investments in the order of R$ 870 million.

“The commercial operation of this new expansion reaffirms the importance of Brazil in our business plans, as well as the potential for diversifying the country’s energy matrix,” said Bruno Riga, responsible for Enel Green Power in Brazil.

Altogether, the São Gonçalo III solar park will be able to to generate, alone, 597 GWh annually, avoiding the emission of more than 400 thousand tons of CO2 in the atmosphere per year.

Considering all the complex, more than 2.0 TWh of energy per year, avoiding the emission of 1.3 million tons of CO2 each year.

The annual energy production of the entire enterprise will also avoid the purchase of 470 million cubic meters of gas per year, replaced by renewable energy produced in the country.

According to Enel Green Power Brasil, the entire complex has approximately 2.2 million solar panels, all of which are bifacial.

A park construction he had start in October 2018, with 475 MW of installed capacity. The park was connected to the grid in January 2020.

In August 2019, Enel announced the construction of the first expansion of the complex, with 133 MW of capacity, which began operating in February 2021.

The construction of the third section of the project, which is now also fully operational, was announced in December 2020.

Altogether, the enterprise solar São Gonçalo now benefited more than 5,200 residents of three municipalities of the park's area of influence, in 17 initiatives in the areas of environmental education, citizenship, health, diversity, culture and professional training.

Among the actions carried out, the creation of a playground built with reused materials from the construction site, such as wooden pallets, was made possible, applying the concept of circular economy to give new uses to materials that would otherwise be discarded.

ENEL also implemented initiatives on construction sites in line with Enel Green Power's “Sustainable Construction Site” model, such as water saving and reuse actions, as well as lighting efficiency measures.
