Currently, Brazil has 3,4 GW of installed capacity of GC (Centralized Generation) from the photovoltaic solar source, with more than 4,2 thousand systems in operation throughout the Brazilian territory. In addition, the country has more than 28 GW of power granted by the Agency. The survey was carried out by Canal Solar, this Monday (26), based on data from SIGA (Generation System) of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

According to ANEEL, Piauí leads the ranking of states with the highest installed capacity in centralized generation, with 1,03 GW. In second place is Bahia, with 0,78 GW and in third place is the state of Minas Gerais, with 0,54 GW. Together, the three states have 91 photovoltaic plants and represent 68,76% of all installed capacity in GC in the country.

Piaui

There are 29 photovoltaic plants in the state of Piauí. Among them are the six plants that make up the solar park in São João do Piauí, which have been in operation since 2020, and together have a total capacity of 186 MW. According to the government of Piauí, a new solar generation park will also be implemented in the state. The capacity is expected to be between 400 and 500 MW, and is expected to start operating by January 2025.

According to the Piauí government, the plant will be located between the municipalities of Buriti dos Lopes and Bom Princípio do Piauí, in the north of the state. R$1,2 to R$1,5 billion will be invested. The company will prioritize hiring workers from the region, which, during the construction phase, will generate up to a thousand direct jobs.

Bahia

In Bahia, there are 32 plants in operation, representing 22,82% of the installed capacity in solar GC in Brazil. The Ituverava photovoltaic solar park is located in this state, 800 km from the capital Salvador, in the municipality of Tabocas do Brejo. The plant is one of the largest photovoltaic plants in operation in Brazil and has stood out for its efficiency in generating clean energy in the country. The plant has an installed capacity of 254 MW and annual energy production of 500 GWh.

The park has 98 SMA Sunny Central SC2200 inverters with MVB (Medium Voltage Block). SMA Power Plant Controller technology was also used, which controls all photovoltaic energy in the megawatt range. It is suitable for photovoltaic plants with central inverters, as well as those with decentralized string inverters.

“We are very proud to have SMA solutions at this plant in Ituverava and we firmly believe in the growth potential of photovoltaic energy in Brazil as a tool to diversify the energy matrix based on cleaner and more sustainable solutions”, highlights André Gellers, Country Manager at SMA Brazil.

The Ituverava solar park, built by the Brazilian renewable energy subsidiary of the Enel Group in Brazil, Enel Green Power Brasil, has approximately 573 hectares and has more than 800 thousand solar panels installed.

Minas Gerais

Currently, the state of Minas Gerais has 30 installed photovoltaic plants. In addition, 18 plants are under construction and another 183 have had their permits released by the ANEEL, but construction has not yet begun.

Occupying the third position of the states with the highest installed power in the GC segment, Minas Gerais has one of the largest solar parks in the country. The Pirapora Solar Complex, located in the municipality of Pirapora (MG), has an installed capacity of 321 MW. The area of the 11 plants corresponds to 1,5 football fields.
