O Piaui leads the national ranking of renewable energy matrix, with 99,75% of energy coming from clean sources. In addition, it occupies the 3rd position in solar and wind energy production, according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
Solar energy
In the solar energy sector, the State occupies the 3rd national position in installed power, behind only Minas Gerais and Bahia, with an average irradiation of 5,9 kWh/m² and around 12 hours of sunlight per day – surpassing the average of countries such as China and Germany.
One of the highlights of the region is the São Gonçalo Solar Park, in São Gonçalo do Gurguéia (PI), which is the largest centralized generation solar energy complex under construction in South America.
With expansion underway, the project will reach 864 MW of installed capacity, occupying an area of approximately 12 million square meters, equivalent to 1.500 football fields.

Wind energy
In wind energy, Piauí also occupies 3rd place nationally, with 12,82 TWh, surpassing states such as Ceará and Rio Grande do Sul.
In the region, the Lagoa dos Ventos Wind Farm stands out as the largest in Latin America. With 230 turbines and an installed capacity of 1.063 MW, the park generates 3,3 TWh annually, preventing the emission of 1,6 million tons of CO₂.
