The Ministry of Ports and Airports launched this Monday (27), at the headquarters of B3, in São Paulo (SP), a policy of sustainable actions aimed at ports, airports and waterways, with measures aimed at both the public and private sectors and that meet the ESG agenda (acronym in English for environmental, social and corporate governance).
Among the main objectives of the new policy are the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the implementation of social and environmental programs and alignment with UN Global Goals (Organization of the United Nations) for 2030.
The initiative also aims to strengthen Brazil's competitiveness on the international stage, promoting sustainable development and attracting investments to these three sectors.
In the public sphere, the Annual Sustainability Policy Agenda will be drawn up, which will include projects, studies and possible regulatory changes.
For the private sector, the implementation of the policy will be made possible through the Pact for Sustainability, a commitment aimed at companies interested in adopting ESG practices.
“The idea was to establish goals and parameters for effective results. We created a participatory policy, with a public consultation open for 30 days, allowing contributions from society and the market. This is an instrument built together,” said Larissa Amorim, sustainability director of Ministry of Ports and Airports.
Criteria and public recognition
To join the sustainability pact, interested companies will need to meet a series of criteria. “Our goal is to encourage companies to participate and reinforce social and environmental responsibility in each of them,” explains Larissa.
Each of the participating companies will also receive a seal of public recognition, with levels that reflect the degree of engagement with environmental causes. “The commitment is not optional: annually, it will be necessary to comply with the established requirements. If they are not complied with, the seal will be revoked”, explained the director.
Larissa added that the set of measures seeks to engage and stimulate positive competition in the public and private sectors. “Those who are committed to good environmental practices will have their projects prioritized within the Ministry of Infrastructure, making their processing faster,” she assured.
Sustainability seals
During the presentation of the new environmental policy, the criteria for obtaining sustainability seals were also presented, divided into four categories: bronze, silver, gold and diamond.
The gold seal, for example, will be granted to those companies that present at least 10 actions distributed among the three axes of the ESG policy, in addition to establishing self-defined goals in the environmental and social axes and adhering to the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program.
Interested companies can register until July 5. Joining will allow organizations to be recognized by commitment seals, encouraging ESG practices on a large scale and promoting alignment with global sustainability goals.
The delivery of the stamps is scheduled for November, during the COP 30, in Belém (PA), in a ceremony that promises to highlight Brazil's leading role in the environmental agenda. The action can serve as a model for other ministries and stimulate a chain of positive impacts in the sector.
