A NGO Revolusolar, in partnership with the French company Total Energies, started a project to offer solar energy to needy communities in Brazil. The goal is train local residents to install and maintain photovoltaic systems from which they will benefit.

Revolusolar is an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) that works with solar energy installations, professional training courses and children's workshops, and has been operating since 2015 in the Babilônia favela.

Beyond the Babylon community, Revolusolar has projects in community of Chapéu Mangueira, hills against Leme beach, in the South Zone of Rio Janeiro (RJ), which will receive the installation of microgeneration panels with a capacity of 12 kW.

Total Energies announced new financing for the Happy Little Angel Institute, located in the Cidade Nova neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro, where Revolusolar's new headquarters are located. The sponsorship will result in construction of a new plant with a generation capacity of 7 MW.

Currently, the organization has already expanded to two other points in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to maintaining four other projects in three states, namely São Paulo, Espírito Santo and Amazonas.

The partnership with Total Energies began in 2022 and arose from the energy company's ESG strategy in Brazil. The planning includes the financing for the purchase of photovoltaic modules for the systems that will be installed in needy communities.

Furthermore, the company highlights that The objective is to improve the NGO’s operating model, in addition to making it more efficient and increasing its ability to replicate projects throughout Brazil.

According to Charles Fernandes, general director of Total Energies in Brazil, the cooperation is phased and involves direct financial contribution of R$500 thousand yet.

“In the first phase of the cooperation work, which ended in May 2023, we supported the review of Solar Revolution’s organization, governance, strategic vision and business model, with the aim of ensuring the sustainability and expansion of its operations”, explains Fernandes.

Eduardo Ávila, executive director of Revolusolar, states that the initiative aims to increase the degree of self-management of projects by local beneficiaries and act in the implementation and monitoring of projects.

According to the NGO's planning, the organization plans to serve on a national scale and reach, by the end of 2025, the order of magnitude of 100 communities across Brazil.
