Residential consumption increased by 3,3% in the 4th quarter of 2022

The consumption of electricity residential in Brazil was 39,3GWh No. 4th quarter of 2022, which represents a increase of 3,3% compared to the 3rd quarter, being the highest quarterly rate of the year. This is what a study of the EPE (Energy Research Company). 

“Despite the increase in consumption in the class in the last quarter of 2022, there was a reclassification of consumers and an increase in new connections. This caused a decrease in average residential consumption (-2,4%) compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, reaching 161,3 kW”, highlights the study. 

According to EPE data, Brazilian regions saw a gradual increase during the year. With Featured protocols for North, with the highest energy consumption rate in the residential class (6,4%), with Tocantins (9,9%) and Pará (8,6%) being the states with the highest increases.  

Already Sul it was the second region with the highest growth in consumption in the 4th quarter, with an increase of 5,4%. Above-average temperatures and drier climates influenced the increase in consumption, with the states of Rio Grande do Sul (8,9%) and Santa Catarina (6,9%) being the highlights for growth, the study pointed out.

The region Southeast showed an increase in the consumption rate of 3,3%, highlighted by Espírito Santo with 8,7% and Minas Gerais with 7,6%, reversing the low percentage they had in previous quarters.

In turn, the region Midwest there was a 1,6% growth in electricity consumption in the 4th quarter of the year. The highlighted states were Goiás (4,4%), Federal District (3,5%) and Mato Grosso (2,9%).

The smallest increase recorded was the Northeast, which had just 1,5% in its growth. The states of Maranhão (11,6%), Alagoas (6,8%), Piauí (5,6%) and Sergipe (2,6%) were those that most influenced the rate growth in the region. 

The growth was influenced by the reclassification of consumers that occurred by the local distributor in Maranhão and the reduction in energy losses in Piauí and Maranhão.

Still according to EPE, in Brazil the average increase in consumption was 1,1% during the year. The highest consumption recorded was in the North regions with 5,8% and the South with a 3,7% increase in 2022. The Northeast (0,1%), Central-West (1,0%) and Southeast (0,0 .XNUMX%), had the smallest annual increase.

    The graphs only tend to increase if we also think about the growth in the use of electronic devices in Brazilian homes.
