The Federal Government will publish this Wednesday (3) the ordinance with the guidelines for holding the first auction of battery storage systems in the Brazilian electricity sector.
The information was anticipated by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, in a publication made this Monday (2) on the social network X.
According to the minister, the bidding process should take place in December of this year and will mark the first structured contracting of storage systems by the federal government.
"This is a historic moment that will allow us to store the energy generated by wind and sun," Silveira stated in the post.
The minister also highlighted that the initiative has the potential to attract investments, generate jobs, and expand the share of renewable sources in the national electricity matrix.
The sector had been waiting for the auction to be finalized for years.
Holding a specific auction for energy storage systems has been one of the main demands of the electricity sector in recent years.
Companies and organizations argue that batteries will be essential to increase the operational flexibility of the SIN (National Interconnected System), especially given the rapid growth of solar and wind power sources.
A market expectation The goal is for the auction to create an initial milestone for the contracting of this technology in Brazil, stimulating new investments and helping to reduce problems related to renewable energy generation cuts, known as curtailment.
Details regarding the contracted capacity, system duration, or participation criteria for the bidding process have not yet been released. These definitions are expected to be included in the ordinance to be published by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME).
