The second LRCAP (Capacity Reserve Auction in the Form of Power) of 2026 – the third in Brazil's history – concluded with the contracting of 501,3 MW, distributed across six projects, after approximately four hours of bidding.
Compared to the first auction held this week, this one was more competitive, but with a lower contracted volume. The average price was R$ 831.251,52 per MW/year, representing a 50,14% discount compared to the ceiling prices.
The result implies an estimated savings of R$ 1,83 billion for consumers. Even so, the contracted projects total a fixed annual revenue of R$ 229,9 million, a cost that will be shared between consumers in the captive and free markets.
For the product with supply starting on August 1, 2026, 228,2 MW were contracted, coming from one fuel oil plant and two diesel plants. The associated fixed revenue is R$ 111,6 million per year.
The winning projects belong to CEP. PetroThe contracts for the Xavantes and UTE Xavantes hydroelectric plants, located in Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul, and Goiás, have a duration of three years. The calculated discount was 44,00%.
For the product with supply starting on August 1, 2027, only the Termoceará power plant was contracted. The plant, powered by diesel and owned by [Company Name], was contracted. PetroBrazil will offer 174,6 MW of power, with a fixed annual revenue of R$ 76,98 million. The contract will also have a duration of three years. The discount recorded in this stage was 46,74%.
For the product with supply starting on August 1, 2030, two biodiesel plants were contracted: PetroLina Bio and UTE Bio Xavantes, located in Pernambuco and Goiás.
Together, the units total 98,4 MW of power, with a fixed annual revenue of R$ 41,2 million. The contracts will be valid for ten years. The discount reached 55,71%.
O first LRCAP of 2026The tender, held on Wednesday (18), was aimed at contracting thermal power plants using natural gas, coal and hydroelectric power, totaling around 19 GW of contracted power.
