The CCEE (Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber) released this Friday (24) the national electricity consumption data for September 2025. Total consumption was 68.953 MW on average, which represents a drop of 3,5% compared to the same month in 2024.
According to the Chamber, the milder weather contributed to the reduction in demand in the regulated market, which totaled 39.099 MW on average, a decrease of 4,6% year-on-year.
In the free energy market, consumption reached an average of 28.854 MW, a 2% decrease compared to the same period last year. The vehicle (-9,2%), telecommunications (-7,6%), and services (6,6%) sectors were primarily responsible for the decline in consumption in the free market. The Non-Metallic Minerals (+2,9%), Textiles (+2,6%), and Miscellaneous Manufactured Goods (+2,3%) sectors recorded increases.

February remains the month with the highest energy consumption in 2025, with an average of 77.074 MW. That month, the national average temperature was 25,94°C, making it the third-warmest February in the last decade. The lowest consumption of the year was recorded in July, with an average of 65.957 MW. Higher temperatures lead to increased consumption due to the use of air conditioning units.
Energy consumption rates directly reflect the pace of the economy. According to the World Bank, Brazil's GDP growth is projected to be 2,4% in 2025. In 2024, GDP grew 3,4%, while annual electricity consumption reached 560.219 GWh, a 5,3% increase compared to 2023, the highest annual volume in history, according to data from the Energy Research Company (EPE).
