Siemens has acquired 49% of Brasol, a company specializing in solar power generation. The purchase aims to support decarbonization projects of large energy consumers. The value of the transaction, closed by the private equity area of Siemens Financial Services, was not disclosed.
According to Brasol, the partnership should bring more savings to customers through Siemens digital tools and services through MindSphere, an operating system based on IoT (Internet of Things) that allows connecting physical machines and infrastructures to the digital world.
In addition, the goal is to provide customers with a range of Siemens energy solutions, including energy efficiency. Ty Eldridge, founding partner and CEO of Brasol, highlights the importance of the acquisition of Siemens. “This is an unprecedented opportunity for companies to take control of their own energy through reliable, cost-effective and sustainable self-generation.”
The executive also emphasizes that the growing demand for renewable energy sources, in addition to the democratization of costs, were responsible for the expansion of distributed photovoltaic generation in Brazil. “The decentralization of electricity generation is a global trend and the future of the sector will increasingly focus on data intelligence to reduce costs and mitigate risks. We see potential to identify efficiencies and generate new savings for customers in the huge amount of data generated,” says David Taff, investment director in Brazil.
According to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), despite the impact of Covid-19, the solar DG sector has already reached 3 GW this year. Growth is expected to continue and multiply between five and eight times in the next decade.
