The advancement of integration between solar generation, energy storage systems (BESS), and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles was highlighted as one of the main drivers of the next phase of growth in the energy sector in Brazil, during Latam Mobility 2026.

The topic was addressed by Bernardo Marangon, a partner at Group Canal Solar, during his participation in the event. According to the executive, the convergence of these solutions should redefine the dynamics of the electricity sector in the coming years.

According to the executive, while the solar energy market is entering a period of more stable growth after years of rapid expansion, electromobility is emerging as a new development front, despite the current limitations of the electrical infrastructure.

“The main challenges are related to infrastructure. How will these vehicles be charged, whether at home or on the street through charging stations? In distribution networks, we already see that the capacity of distributors to charge buses, for example, is still limited,” he stated.

According to Marangon, this indicates that the expansion of the distribution network has not kept pace with the increase in demand for recharging, especially in large urban centers.

"The distributor's capacity to charge buses is limited. Often, increasing the voltage in cities like São Paulo is difficult because there is no power available," he explained.

In this context, Marangon emphasizes that energy storage systems, better known as BESS, are gaining prominence as a strategic solution to enable the growth of electric mobility without relying exclusively on grid expansion.

“I envision that all parking spaces will have a charger, whether in bus garages or condominiums. This could become a demand problem, and the solution lies in BESS, because the distributor won't have the capacity to expand the network at the speed we need,” he said.

Opportunity for integrators

In addition to easing the demand on the electrical system, Marangon emphasized that BESS also expands the scope of operations for integrators, allowing access to new consumer profiles.

In these applications, energy storage can work in conjunction with residential photovoltaic systems, optimizing the use of generated energy, as well as supporting the charging of electric vehicles, adding flexibility and autonomy to energy consumption.

Another factor that tends to accelerate this movement is the already consolidated solar energy ecosystem in Brazil. Marangon points out that integrators and suppliers have been rapidly migrating to this new market, with companies that previously operated in the sale of modules and inverters now also offering charging stations.

Finally, the partner of Canal Solar He also highlighted the potential of technologies such as V2G (vehicle-to-grid), which allow the use of electric vehicle batteries as a power source, reinforcing the trend of integration between generation, storage and consumption.
