O Brazil created 169,6 thousand empregos in the solar energy in the first eight months of 2022, which corresponds to an average of approximately 700 hires per day, according to calculations carried out by Canal Solar, based on data from the ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).
This is the largest volume of hires ever recorded in the sector in just a single year.
This is because, even though 2022 has not even ended yet, the period already surpasses the record from last year as a whole: which was 153 thousand jobs created between the months of January and December.
A year earlier, in 2020, the number of new admissions was 86 thousand. Currently, the Fonte has already been responsible for employing more than 567 thousand workers in the job market in all regions of Brazil in the last ten years.
According to ABSOLAR, for each megawatt of solar energy installed, approximately 30 direct and indirect jobs are generated.
At the beginning of September, Brazil surpassed the 19 GW mark of installed power in the sector, combining the centralized and distributed generation segments.
Jobs and investments in the sector
The growth in jobs, due to the increase in demand for solar energy projects in Brazil, on rooftops or large plants, guaranteed the country fourth place in the world ranking of nations that added the most to the source in their electrical matrix in 2021.
Last year, 5,7 GW were added to the matrix, according to a survey by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), with data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) and IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency).
In addition to the jobs generated, the data made publicly available by ABSOLAR they also show that the solar energy sector attracted more than R$31,5 billion in investments in 2022 alone, including large plants and distributed generation systems. In total, the sector has generated almost R$100 billion in business since 2012.
