Photovoltaic solar energy continues to grow year after year and dominate the renewable energy matrix. According to IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency), photovoltaic energy recorded an increase of 2019 GW (+98%) in 20 compared to 2018.
Following this growth curve, wind energy comes in second with an increase of 59 GW (+ 10%). Hydroelectric capacity, for example, grew by 12 GW (+ 1%) and bioenergy by 6 GW (+ 5%).
IRENA also points out that solar and wind energy represent 90% of all net renewable additions in 2019.
In Brazil, according to the ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), in 2020 the country should reach 5,4 GW gigawatts of power in distributed generation, a growth of 260% in relation to the 2 GW mark produced last year.
Asia leads global expansion
Asia continued to dominate global solar capacity expansion with an increase of 56 GW (about 60% of the total in 2019). China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Vietnam were the countries with the highest capacity in 2019. Other large increases occurred in the United States, Australia, Spain, Ukraine and Germany.
Renewable energy
According to IRENA data, renewable capacity reached 2.537 GW worldwide at the end of 2019, an increase of 176 GW (+7%) compared to the previous year.
