the state of Minas Gerais reached the milestone of 10 GW of installed solar energy capacity in November this year, with 4,2 GW from self-generation systems and 5,8 GW from large-scale plants.
The number, besides being symbolic, already exceeds the capacity of the three largest fossil fuel power plants in operation in the country: Petrobras, Eneva and UTE GNA I, which together total 8,5 GW.
In terms of environmental benefits, the solar energy capacity generated in the state can prevent the emission of up to 13,5 thousand tons of CO₂ per year, compared to coal, which is equivalent to removing more than seven million cars from circulation.
Even with the cases of flow reversal and the denials of solar energy projects by the cemig (Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais), all 853 municipalities in the state have at least one photovoltaic generation unit in operation.
In the DG (distributed generation) segment, there are more than 320 thousand systems installed, which operate thanks to companies that provide solutions for the sector.
Partnership with China
At the beginning of the month, the Government of Minas Gerais signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Chinese company FTXT (GWM Hydrogen), a subsidiary of GWM (Great Wall Motors), and Unifei (Federal University of Itajubá).
The signing took place in Shanghai, China, and aims to promote the transfer and exchange of technologies related to the use of green hydrogen as a clean energy source for FTXT/GWM trucks and other vehicles.
The trucks, equipped with fuel cells that will convert hydrogen into electricity, will be fueled at UNIFEI's Green Hydrogen Center and will experimentally travel the route between the city in the south of the state of São Paulo (SP).
The MoU is valid for 12 months, renewable for a further 60 months, and establishes cooperation for the creation of a green hydrogen truck refuelling infrastructure, with the aim of testing a sustainable transport route.
