The MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) published in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union) the ordinances that define the amounts of physical guarantee of energy from enterprises for participation in the Auction for the Purchase of Electricity from New Generation Enterprises, Auction A -5, to be held on September 16th.

In the published document, the amounts of physical guarantees were defined for 1.982 photovoltaic, wind, thermoelectric and hydroelectric projects, which together represent a total of 27.963,71 average MW of energy.

Of this total, the biggest highlight is solar, with 1.331 plants included and an average of 16.731,00 MW defined for commercialization.

Check the volumes offered:

  • 16.731 average MW defined for 1.331 solar plants;
  • 9.518,1 average MW defined for 549 wind farms;
  • 520,30 average MW defined for 2 thermoelectric plants centrally dispatched using biomass and national mineral coal.
  • 514,54 average MW defined for 63 Small Hydroelectric Plants;
  • 495,90 average MW defined for 21 thermoelectric plants not centrally dispatched to biomass;
  • 162,60 average MW defined for 7 hydroelectric plants;
  • 21,27 average MW defined for 9 Hydroelectric Generating Plants.

The A-5 Auction

According to the MME, at Auction A-5, energy commercialization contracts will be negotiated in the Regulated Environment, with electricity supply starting on January 1, 2027. The term of validity of the negotiated contracts depends on the modality (quantity or availability ) and the type of enterprise, as highlighted below:

  • 20 years for hydroelectric projects;
  • 20 years for thermoelectric projects using biomass, national mineral coal and biogas;
  • 20 years for energy recovery projects from urban solid waste, as covered by Interministerial Ordinance No. 274, of April 30, 2019, of the Ministries of the Environment, Mines and Energy and Regional Development;
  • 15 years for generation projects from solar photovoltaic and wind sources.
