ViaMobilidade, operator of Line 5-Lilac of the São Paulo metro, started operating a solar plant installed on the roof of the Guido Caloi terminal, attached to the Santo Amaro station. Occupying a space of 300 square meters, the 196 photovoltaic panels have the capacity to generate up to 11 megawatt-hours (MWh).
According to the company, the plant will supply electricity for the terminal's lighting systems, sockets, information panels, among others. Furthermore, part of the energy generated will be shared with the Campo Limpo and Capão Redondo terminals, located in the south of São Paulo.
The project was developed with the aim of promoting the rational use of electrical energy and contributing to sustainability actions. The value of the investment was not disclosed.
Projects for the use of solar energy in the metro-rail system are a bet on reducing consumption and operating costs. The Metro and CPTM have studies on the implementation of energy generating plants in some stations.
On line 9-Esmeralda, also operated by ViaMobilidade, the Cidade Jardim and Vila Olímpia stations have solar panels that help with electricity supply.
