The electricity generation capacity in Brazil was expanded by 6,56 GW between January and October 2025, with the entry into operation of 113 new plants, according to data released this Friday (7) by Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency).
Considering the sources of generation, the new power plants that came online during the period were:
- 13 thermal power plants (2,49 GW);
- 48 photovoltaic solar power plants (2,27 GW);
- 37 wind farms (1,53 GW);
- 11 small hydroelectric power plants (199,3 MW);
- 1 hydroelectric power plant (50 MW);
- 1 hydroelectric power plant (6,7 MW).
Only in October, the ANEEL It indicates that 19 projects have entered commercial operation in the country, totaling 643,46 MW of new capacity.
Solar power accounted for the majority of the expansion, with 13 plants totaling 559,47 MW. Three wind farms (31,5 MW), two small hydroelectric plants (27,49 MW), and one thermal power plant (25 MW) also began operating.
Expansion by state
In the first ten months of this year, 17 states began hosting new power plants in operation. The largest increases were recorded in Rio de Janeiro (1.672,6 MW), Minas Gerais (1.038,35 MW) and Bahia (1.011,7 MW).
In October, Minas Gerais led the expansion with 11 new plants, totaling 485,1 MW, followed by São Paulo, with 99,37 MW. Currently, Brazil has 215,4 GW of installed capacity in centralized generation, of which 84,42% originates from renewable sources.
