Theaters and museums managed by Funarj (Anita Mantuano Foundation for the Arts of the State of Rio de Janeiro) will start operating with solar energy.

According to the Government of State, the plan foresees the installation of more than 800 photovoltaic panels in cultural spaces, in addition to the creation of five energy production stations.

The stations will operate in the João Caetano, Sala Cecília Meireles, Armando Gonzaga, Arthur Azevedo and Mário Lago theaters.

The energy credits generated by the stations will supply, in addition to these units, the Carmen Miranda Museum, the Laura Alvim Cultural Center and the Gláucio Gil Theater.

So far, four units have received the equipment for installation and the arrival of the devices at Teatro João Caetano is scheduled for this month.

“All Funarj theaters will receive clean energy, some will produce and others will only receive credits. This project is a way of uniting art and sustainability in cultural facilities,” says Jackson Emerick, president of the foundation.

Solar energy in vulnerable areas

In addition to the installation of solar systems in cultural areas, the Government of Rio de Janeiro also announced this month an action with the aim of stimulating the implementation and access to photovoltaic sources in areas of social vulnerability.

The initiative is planned in Law 10.654 / 25, which was approved by Alerj (Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro), sanctioned last Tuesday (7), as reported by Canal Solar.
