The ONS (National Electric System Operator) is preparing a special plan for the end-of-year holiday period.
According to the Operator, this period is expected to see a combination of decreased consumption and a strong presence of distributed generation, which should lead the SIN (National Interconnected System) to unprecedented minimum load conditions.
Currently, the country has over 42 GW of installed mini and micro distributed generation, a volume over which the Operator has no direct control. And from December 20th, the ONS projects a significant reduction in the supervised load.
O ONS It is estimated that, in scenarios of mild temperatures and high photovoltaic production, the energy injected by distributed generation (DGM) may exceed the adjustment capacity of centralized power plants, creating situations in which the operation cannot reduce generation sufficiently to maintain the system frequency.
According to the Operator, this is exactly what happened on August 10th of this year, Father's Day. On that occasion, the ONS (National System Operator) had to minimize hydroelectric generation and cut a significant portion of wind and solar production to avoid a blackout.
Given this situation, the ONS (National System Operator) believes it may be able to activate, for the first time, the Emergency Plan for Cutting Generation in Distribution, aimed at type III distributed generation plants.
The measure is not automatic, as it depends on the relationship between the effective load of the period and the generation resulting from the distributed generation. If the monitoring indicates values below the minimum operational safety limit, localized cuts may be applied to avoid loss of stability.
Port of Sergipe

Another important action will be the complete shutdown of the Porto de Sergipe I thermal power plant, a 1.593 MW plant owned by Eneva. The plant will remain out of operation between December 20th and January 4th, on its own initiative. in an agreement validated by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
The thermal power plant was originally scheduled to generate during that period, but its flexibility was considered positive by the ONS (National System Operator) as it increases the security of service during a period of low load.
