ENGIE Brasil has officially started full commercial operation of the Serra do Assuruá Wind Farm Complex in Gentio do Ouro (BA), after completing the first phase of the project.
With investments of around R$ 6 billion, the complex has an installed capacity of 846 MW, distributed across 188 wind turbines that make up 24 wind farms.
According to the company, most of the energy generated will be directed to the Free Energy Market, allowing companies across the country to purchase renewable electricity directly from generators.
The complex is connected to the SIN (National Interconnected System) via 28 kilometers of transmission lines, enabling the distribution of generated energy to different regions of Brazil.

During the implementation phase, the project generated approximately 3.000 direct and indirect jobs, with a focus on hiring local workers, both from Gentio do Ouro and neighboring municipalities.
Workforce training was carried out through the program. Bahia Qualification program aimed at preparing professionals from the region to work in the renewable energy sector.
The company also reported allocating R$ 8,5 million to social, educational, and infrastructure initiatives. Of this total, R$ 4,6 million was invested in road improvements and local transportation, which, according to ENGIE, brought direct benefits to the community and boosted regional development.
“Investment in social infrastructure is a powerful tool for transformation, capable of strengthening traditions, generating lasting positive impact, and expanding opportunities for all,” said Paulo Muller, director of implementation at ENGIE Brasil Energia.
