Every two minutes, a photovoltaic system is installed in the Brazilian DG (distributed generation) segment. This is what a survey carried out by the Solar Channel, based on data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) in 2021.
According to the study, between January 1st and October 14th alone, around 238.2 thousand solar units were added to the SCEE (Electric Energy Compensation System). This is a record that easily surpasses the 157,900 systems recorded in the same period of the previous year.
For Gustavo Tegon, co-founder of Solar Sphere, The numbers presented show the growth in the popularization of the solar source among the main sectors of society. “The numbers presented by ANEEL are incredible. We are talking about democratic energy, which all social classes can have access to, mainly with the financing lines that exist in our sector today”, he said.
Solar growth
In the first week of October, solar energy reached the mark of 7 GW of installed power on roofs, facades and small plots of residences, businesses, industries, rural producers and public buildings in Brazil, which is equivalent to half of the entire capacity of the Itaipu hydroelectric plant.
According to ANEEL, the country currently has more than 631.8 thousand solar systems connected to the grid, bringing savings and environmental sustainability to more than 791.2 thousand consumer units.
In total, the technology is already present in 5,375 of the 5,570 Brazilian municipalities, with the leading states in installed power being, respectively: Minas Gerais (1,318 MW), São Paulo (915 MW), Rio Grande do Sul (874 MW), Mato Grosso (546 MW) and Paraná (387 MW).
Employment and income
According to data from ABSOLATE (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association) more than R$ 35.6 billion in new investments have been made since the start of the solar source expansion across the country. In this period alone, more than 210 thousand jobs were accumulated because of the sector in all regions that cover the national territory.
“Solar energy will have an increasingly strategic role in achieving the country’s economic and environmental development goals, especially at this time, to help the economy recover after the pandemic, as it is the renewable source that generates the most jobs in the world ”, stated Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of the entity.
