A ABSOLATE (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with two Chinese entities to strengthen and expand bilateral trade between photovoltaic sectors in Brazil and China.

O agreement was signed during the Snec 2023, the largest solar energy fair in the world, in Shanghai, China, with CIETC (Center for International Economic and Technological Cooperation) and the CPIA (China Photovoltaic Industry Association).

The idea of the partnership is to promote a acceleration in the development of solar energy markets in both countries, in order to increase the attraction of new investments, generation of jobs and income and creation of business opportunities in solar energy.

As part of this initiative, the three organizations will jointly hold an annual event: the China-Brazil Solar PV Industry Exchange Forum, with the aim of sharing knowledge and strengthening commercial links. Next year, Brazil was chosen to host the meeting, which does not yet have a date or a defined city.

In ABSOLAR's view, the agreement can be a major vector for intensifying the energy transition and reindustrialization of Brazil based on photovoltaic technologies.

“With solar energy, we can, in a short time, make the Brazilian electrical matrix even cleaner, renewable and accessible to all segments of the population”, said Ronaldo Koloszuk, president of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR, who integrated the Brazilian mission into the China.

Solar energy in Brazil and China

Currently, the Brazil has more than 30 GW of installed power in solar energy, adding large and distributed micro and mini generation plants, according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

Since 2012, the solar source has brought Brazil around R$ 150.7 billion in new investments, more than R$ 45.8 billion in revenue to public coffers and generated more than 911.4 thousand accumulated jobs. This also prevented the emission of 38.5 million tons of CO2 in electricity generation.

China already Today, it has the highest operational power source in the world, with 440 GW reached at the end of April, according to NEA data (National Energy Administration).

In the first four months alone, the total investment of the main Chinese energy companies in solar energy increased by 156.3% compared to the same period in 2022, totaling US$ 10.6 billion, the equivalent of more than R$ 51 billion at the current exchange rate.
