All lots were sold, and the winning bids were those that offered the lowest annual remuneration proposals for the entrepreneurs. The average discount for the winning proposals was 55.24%, the third highest ever seen in competitions for transmission projects carried out by ANEEL.

“It is a source of great pride to declare that the transmission auction was extremely successful. The result demonstrates that the electricity sector is a safe haven for investments in Brazil”, stated André Pepitone, general director of ANEEL.

“The result of the auction confirms the great interest of the private sector in investing in opportunities in the electricity sector and reveals the appetite and confidence of foreigners in Brazil. The sector is consolidating itself in the path of national and international investors”, added Pipetone.

“With this auction, we estimate more than R$ 7 billion in investments, which should represent the creation of more than 15 thousand direct jobs. This concession of transmission lines ends a successful cycle of auctions held this year in the country's electricity and oil sectors”, highlighted the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque.

“This is another achievement for the company as we close out 2020 and also to reaffirm our commitment and long-term commitment to the socioeconomic development of Brazil, reinforcing our full confidence in the bodies responsible for managing and regulating the electricity sector”, commented Mario Ruiz- Tagle, CEO of Neoenergia.

With RAP (Allowed Annual Revenue) of more than R$ 159 million, the company purchased the asset with the largest extension and the largest investment forecast by ANEEL.

According to the rules of the notice, the term of the works varies from 42 to 60 months and the 30-year concessions are valid from the signing of the contracts. The result of the auction is estimated to create approximately 15 thousand direct jobs.

Auction 2021

The next transmission auction, scheduled for June 2021, is expected to attract investment of R$ 1 billion. This is what Erik Rego, director of Electric Energy Studies at EPE (Energy Research Company), said.

Also according to Pepitone, by the end of 2022, the energy generation and transmission auctions to be carried out by ANEEL should leverage investments of R$ 88 billion for the country, with the creation of 626 thousand jobs.
