ANEEL will discuss the modernization of energy tariffs

A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) opened a grant making process to discuss the modernization of electricity tariffs in Brazil. 

Available between June 26th and September 26th, 2024, all of society, agents in the electricity sector, consumers, public policy makers and other interested parties can send their contributions to the regulatory process through the e-mail or digital protocol available on the Agency's website.

According to technical note No. 95/2024-STR/ANEEL published on June 27, the objective of the consultation is to adjust the tariff system to keep up with innovations in the sector and create a roadmap to guide and regulate modernization. 

The proposal for 2024 and 2025 is to discuss the action plan for the cost of availability, evaluating other minimum billing options and analyzing the studies already carried out. 

For 2026 and 2027, the objective is improve educational campaigns for the population, the vertical structure, tariff sandboxes, bank fees and TR FIO A (costs linked to the maintenance and operation of transmission lines). 

Finally, for 2027 and 2028, the objective is define, make flexible and harmonize tariff modalities. After the public consultation period, ANEEL will analyze the contributions received and may adjust the initial proposal before its implementation.
