A Atlas Renewable Energy and the primary aluminum producer in Brazil Albras signed a contract for sustainable energy supply for 21 years. This is the biggest PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) already signed in Latin America.

The renewable energy that will meet the new PPA with Albras will come from Vista Alegre Photovoltaic Project, scheduled to begin operations in 2025. Located in Minas Gerais, the project has 902 MWp of installed capacity and will generate approximately 2TWh/year.

The energy that can be generated by the park is equivalent to taking more than 61,800 cars off the streets, in addition to offsetting around 154 thousand tons of CO2 emissions per year.

“This is a very important step for Atlas. We are closing the second contract with Albras, which attests to our ability to provide competitiveness and predictability to our clients’ energy management to achieve their sustainability goals”, he states. Luis Pita, director of Atlas Renewable Energy in Brazil.

“The model of this contract has been consolidating itself as one of the great solutions in energy supply for companies, with advantages in ESG and economic guidelines, in addition to preserving the planet with the consumption of renewable energy”, he added.

With this new contract, Atlas will continue to enable ESG practices to generate long-term benefits and promote sustainable practices for surrounding communities.

“We are all part of the same energy”, Atlas' flagship social program, will be implemented to promote diversity and inclusion in the renewable energy sector by training local women in technical skills and mobilizing its hires to include them in their recruitment process , with the aim of achieving more than 15% of female representation in the construction of the plant.

Albras is one of the largest producers of primary aluminum in Brazil and, since 1985, has been supplying the domestic and foreign markets with aluminum ingots. Hydro is the company's main shareholder, with 51% of the shares in this joint venture. The other shareholder is NAAC (Nippon Amazon Aluminum Co).
