British renewable energy company Atlas Renewable Energy announced that it obtained a loan of US$ 67 million from IDB Invest (Inter-American Development Bank) and DNB Bank ASA, from Norway, to finance the construction of Jacarandá, a 187 MWp solar energy project located in the city of Juazeiro (BA).

According to the company, it is the first time that a Brazilian photovoltaic energy project has been financed entirely in US dollars.

The plant will have the capacity to generate 440 GWh per year and has a 15-year PPA (solar energy purchase agreement) with the American multinational Dow.

In a statement, Atlas highlighted the innovative approach to every aspect of the project, ranging from the use of bifacial module technology, which improves plant efficiency and reduces land use, to the project's interconnection with the world's first digital substation. Brazil, already installed by the company at the Ing. Manoel de Andrade solar plant, which is next to Jacarandá.

Largest bilateral solar PPA in Brazil

In March this year, Atlas Renewable Energy and the British mining company Anglo American signed the largest solar energy sales contract in Brazil, the installation of the Atlas Casablanca photovoltaic plant, with an investment of R$ 881 million.

The plant, which the company will develop in Minas Gerais, will supply Anglo American with around 9 TWh during the term of the contract, which will last 15 years and begin in 2022. The plant will have an installed capacity of 330 MW and more than 800,000 bifacial modules.

Canadian signs 2 PPAs for projects in Bahia

Manufacturer Canadian Solar signed two PPA contracts: one for the photovoltaic park built by the company itself in Minas Gerais and another for a project in the state of Pernambuco. Total capacity will reach 274 MWp.

In the state of Minas Gerais, the company will develop and build a 152 MWp project. Work will begin in 2021 and is expected to reach commercial operation before the end of 2022. This is the first PPA signed directly between Canadian Solar and an industrial customer in Brazil, establishing a milestone for the company in this market. The PPA contract will be for 20 years.
