Atlas Renewable Energy – a solar energy generator focused on Latin America – has secured a loan of R$ 406 million from the FNE (Northeast Constitutional Financing Fund) for the construction of a 239 MW photovoltaic project, in the municipality of Pirapora (MG).
Lar do Sol – Casablanca II is being built according to the Brazilian model of self-production, in which companies, in this case the Brazilian chemical company Unipar, pay lower tariffs on the energy produced if used for self-consumption.
In the system, remote generation is allowed, which means that energy production can occur in a location different from that where it is consumed. Atlas will be the main investor and operator of the project, with Unipar being a co-investor.
When ready, the plant will have 460,000 bifacial solar panels, distributed over an area of approximately 700 hectares.
All the energy generated by the photovoltaic project will be used by Unipar to produce chlorine to treat water for more than 60 million Brazilians.
Less than a year ago, Atlas also announced a loan of R$ 150 million for the construction of the Lar do Sol – Casablanca I Solar Photovoltaic Complex, which, like the second one, will also be located in Pirapora (MG). Work on the site began in April 2021 and should be completed by the end of June this year.
