O EIB (European Investment Bank) and the Santander Brazil signed, this Monday (17), in Brussels, Belgium, a loan of €300 million (about R$ 1.6 billion, at the current price) for investments in solar energy.
The project is part of the investment strategy of the European Union Global Gateway, which supports infrastructure development and improves global and regional connectivity in the digital, climate, transport, health, energy and education sectors.
O loan will be used for the installation of small-scale self-consumption photovoltaic plants at the Brazil, predominantly on roofs, which should generate a capacity total combined approx. 600 MWp. Photovoltaic panels will be installed mainly in residences and in SMEs (small and medium-sized companies).
According to Santander Brasil, the EIB's investment will bring subsidies to the institution's solar project financing program, allowing more affordable rates for customers, both individuals and companies. “With the incentive, rates will start at 1.79% am, and the customer can pay in up to 96 installments (…) Santander also finances medium and large projects with specific conditions”, highlighted the bank.
O project will also help Brazil achieve its goals to increase participation from renewable sources in its electricity generation mix and with compliance with the Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan.
The signed operation is also part of the EIB's plan to increasingly serve the Latin American market and Santander's climate strategy, which has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
