A BBCE (Brazilian Energy Trading Counter), energy trading platform, transacted 50 thousand GWh in May this year, growth of 51.5% compared to the same period last year.

With this, the company records the best result for the month of May in the last 12 years, that is, since its foundation.

In total, they were closed 9.2 thousand contracts, an increase of 445.4% in the annual comparison, totaling an amount of R$ 6.3 billion traded

According to Eduardo Rossetti, Commercial, Products, Communication and Marketing Director at BBCE, this behavior is explained by energy price volatilitya, which continue to fluctuate due to climatic factors.

“Among the highlights are the prices for the last quarter of the year, which jumped from R$ 97/MWh, on April 30th, to R$ 170/MWh at the end of May”, highlighted the executive, in a press release.

One of the movements observed were position adjustments, with an increase in search for monthly contracts, in addition to 3Q2024, 2H2024 and 4Q2024, which had been heavily negotiated throughout the year.

“When volatility is high and there are strong changes in positions in short periods of time, there is a natural demand for on-screen trading, an environment in which you can close deals more quickly and monitor prices in real time”, he explains.
