BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) approved two projects for the implementation of photovoltaic plants in the municipalities of Oliveira de Brejinhos (BA) and Araxá (MG).

The initiatives represent an investment of more than R$ 1.1 billion in clean and renewable energy production.

Furthermore, according to the financial institution, the construction of these plants will generate around 3,400 jobs. Financing will occur directly, within the scope of BNDES Finem.

Of the total released, R$ 910 million will be allocated to the construction of eight photovoltaic plants, with an installed capacity of 415 MW. The project will be implemented in Oliveira de Brejinhos and is expected to generate more than two thousand jobs.

The Sol do Sertão Complex is an investment by Essentia Energia, a company founded by Pátria Investimentos, and is expected to enter commercial operation in the second half of 2021.

Furthermore, the bank also released R$ 194 million for the Araxá 1 and Araxá 2 plants, which will have 90 MW of power and should generate around 1,300 jobs. The plants are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021.

The project is an investment decision by Powertis, a Spanish company belonging to the same economic group as tracker manufacturer Soltec.

Sustainable development

All of these BNDES investments in photovoltaic plants are aligned with the PNMC (National Plan on Climate Change) effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Plan also seeks to maintain a high share of renewable energy in the electrical matrix, preserving Brazil's prominent position on the international scene.

The bank's initiative is also in line with the Federal Government's National Energy Plan 2030, with strategies for expanding economic and sustainable energy over the next ten years.

“BNDES’ support for the two projects is a demonstration of the Bank’s commitment to expanding the electrical matrix based on renewable energy with the boost of the free energy market”, highlighted Carla Primavera, superintendent of the Energy Area at BNDES.
