This year alone, between January and May, more than 6 GW of photovoltaic solar energy plants were added, considering both centralized and distributed generation. With this, the source reached the mark of 43 GW of installed capacity in the country, equivalent to R$ 202 billion of investments and more than 1.3 million jobs created.

According to ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association), the technology already corresponds to 18.2% of the Brazilian electrical matrix. Since 2012, businesses in the sector have guaranteed more than R$ 62 billion in revenue to the public coffers.

Considering DG alone, there are more than 29.2 GW of plants installed on rooftops, businesses and land, generating around R$ 143.4 billion in investments. In the centralized generation segment, large solar plants have more than 13.8 GW of power in the country, with around R$ 58.9 billion in accumulated investments.

According to Ronaldo Koloszuk, president of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR, the growth of solar is a reflection of the popularization of technology in Brazil, “both for consumers in their homes, businesses and rural properties and for the expansion of the National Interconnected System with larger plants.”

The photovoltaic sector has already avoided the emission of 52 million tons of CO2 in electricity generation. “In addition to accelerating the decarbonization of economic activities and helping to combat global warming, solar sources play an increasingly strategic role in the competitiveness of productive sectors, relief for the family budget, energy independence and prosperity of nations”, declared Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLAR.
