O Brazil it was the 4th country that added the most solar energy in the world in 2022, with 9.9 GW of power, according to a survey published by IEA (International Energy Agency).
Around the world, the photovoltaic source grew by 240 GW over the past year, reaching the mark of 1.2 TW of accumulated global capacity. As expected, the China came first, with an increase of 106 GW in the period.
The result was more than double the power obtained by the 27 countries that make up the European Union – which together accumulated 39 GW of installed power, led by Spain (8.1 GW), Germany (7.5 GW), Poland (4.9 GW) and the Netherlands (3.9 GW).
Already the North American market accounted for an increase of 18.6 GW of installed solar power in 2022, while the Indian was right behind, with 18.1 GW. In Brazil, the record of 9.9 GW represented almost double the result recorded by the country in 2021.
According to the IEA analysis, the rise in energy tariff prices in several countries around the world, especially in Brazil and Europe, they have further reinforced the competitiveness of solar energy, with initiatives and interest from society to accelerate the use of the source.
Another global survey on solar energy
In addition to the survey released by the IEA, the Brazil rose six positions in the IRENA ranking (International Renewable Energy Agency) published in March this year.
In this other study, Brazil ended 2022 in 8th place in the world ranking of operational solar energy capacity, with more than 24 GW added since the beginning of the source's expansion around the world.
This was the first time that the country was among the top ten in the survey, being the country that gained the most positions in the ranking compared to the previous one, when it finished in 14th place overall in 2021.
