O Brazil ended 2023 in 6th place of world ranking operational capacity of solar energy with 37.4 GW, according to a report published by IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency).

The country, which moved up two positions in the global balance, it was second only to China (609.3 GW), U.S (137.7 GW), Japan (87.1 GW), Germany (81.7 GW) and India (72.7 GW). Complete the top 10 Australia (33.6 GW), Italy (29.8 GW), Spain (28.7 GW) and South Korea (27GW).

Furthermore, considering only the last year, Brazil was the fourth place in added power with 11.9 GW, behind China (216.9 GW), USA (24.8 GW) and Germany (14.2 GW).

Only in 2023, in Brazil, will the solar sector attracted more than R$ 59.6 billion in new investments, an increase of 49% in relation to the accumulated contributions until the end of 2022. In 2024, the solar source will already added 4 GW capacity, exceeding 41GW in the country. Currently, he is responsible for 17,4% from the Brazilian electrical matrix.

Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLATE (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), sees solar sources as the most competitive among renewable sources. “The accelerated growth of solar energy is a global trend and Brazilian progress in this area is an international highlight.

"O Brazil has one of the best solar resources of the planet and increasingly takes on a leading role in this process of energy transition and combating global warming”, he explains.
