A Goiânia City Council (GO) approved, in a second vote last Wednesday (6), the Bill 218/22 which provides for the mandatory installation of traffic lights that work using solar energy on public roads in the capital. Electricity will be stored using batteries.
The PL is authored by councilor Anderson Sales (Solidarity) and now goes to sanction or veto by Mayor Rogério Cruz (Republicans).
Under the project, the City Council must prepare schedule for progressive replacement of traffic lights that use electrical energy through new devices based on photovoltaic solar energy.
“There are many benefits of using solar energy as a source of traffic lights. In addition to representing savings for the municipality, it brings more traffic safety, as these traffic lights with their own energy source will not be subject to recurring power outages, which occur especially on rainy days in our city”, explains the councilor.
