To the heavy rains that reach the Rio Grande do Sul and have already left more than 140 thousand consumers without access to electricity, turned on yet another warning signal to the competent authorities of State.
In the early hours of this Thursday (2), the Samae (Municipal Autonomous Water and Sewage Service) of the municipality of Caxias do Sul (RS) issued an alert over the risk of dam failure from the Dal Bó Dam.
Given the water level in the reservoir, the warning calls for evacuation of the region, with risks of flooding in nearby neighborhoods. The dealership also said that it was necessary to open an attached floodgate to help reduce the water level.
On Wednesday night, the structure was open at 75%, however, needed to be expanded to 100% on Thursday morning.
A company also claims to maintain control of water escaping from the spillway, but if the maximum capacity of the dam is reached, houses and nearby neighborhoods will suffer from possible flooding. The region is being evacuated by municipal security agencies.
ANEEL issues statement
The situation of the Caxias do Sul dam is not the only one that has drawn the attention of the competent bodies in Rio Grande do Sul.
This Tuesday (30), the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) published a press release informing the critical situation of another dam in the State: the Dona Francisca hydroelectric plant.

This Thursday morning alone, eight notifications were issued with flood risk warnings in various regions. The last of them draws attention to the extreme hydrological risks and asks residents to avoid staying close to rivers.
“If you are surprised by severe weather, seek shelter, and do not cross floods on foot or even by car. Seek information from your city's Civil Defense, learn about municipal Contingency Plans to find out what the risks are and how to act in the event of a disaster in your municipality”, highlights the statement.
