CE will produce 15.75 thousand tons of hydrogen and green oxygen per month

The Cactus plant will have the capacity to produce 10.5 thousand tons of hydrogen and 5.25 thousand tons of green oxygen per month

The Government of Ceará and the company Cactus Energia Verde signed, this Monday (7), a memorandum of understanding aiming at the installation of an enterprise for the production of hydrogen and green oxygen in the ZPE (Processing and Export Zone) of the Ceará Port Complex. Pecém, in São Gonçalo do Amarante (CE). 

The Cactus plant, scheduled for construction in early 2023, will have the capacity to produce 10.5 thousand tons of hydrogen and 5.25 thousand tons of green oxygen per month.

The estimated investment is approximately €5 billion, around R$ 30 billion. 

The location where the plant will be installed has an area of up to 250 hectares and is expected to generate around 5,000 direct jobs during its construction and maintenance, in addition to another 600 jobs during its operation phase.

To produce green hydrogen and oxygen, the company will use 3.6 GW of clean energy from renewable sources, which will be based on the production of the Uruquê Photovoltaic Park, with the capacity to produce 2.4 GW of energy, to be installed in municipalities of Jaguaretama and Umari, and the Offshore Wind Farm (which also had its memorandum of understanding signed), with potential production of 1.2 GW of energy, located in Camocim (CE).

In addition to the new complex for the production of green hydrogen and oxygen, Ceará is gradually standing out for its natural potential and infrastructure created to promote the use of renewable energy in its municipalities.

The state, for example, is the 5th with the highest volume of installed solar power in 2022, with just over 10 MW installed, behind only Minas Gerais (38.7 MW), São Paulo (20 MW), Rio Grande do South (18.1 MW) and Pará (13 MW).
