CEMIG (Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais SA) announced that it will begin construction of dozens of 150 MW solar plants in the north and northwest regions of the state. As an initial part of its plans, the company will invest R$ 300 million next year.
The projects will be spread across almost 20 municipalities in Minas Gerais and will consume a total investment of R$ 600 million.
Despite rumors about the company's imminent privatization, the company is making plans to create a new subsidiary to operate in the distributed generation sector, of which CEMIG will be a partner together with a private partner.
The implementation of the first plants will be done with its own capital, while the company hopes to raise financing for future projects.
