Comerc Renew and Grendene sign PPA that provides for the supply of solar

According to the companies, the use of clean energy will avoid the emission of 52 thousand tons of CO2 per year

Comerc Renew, the Centralized Generation vertical of Comerc Energia Group, closed a preliminary agreement with Grendene, a national fashion giant, to supply solar energy with the aim of supplying 80% with its operational demand.

Located in Várzea da Palma, Minas Gerais, and expected to start operations in 2024, the plant will supply 10 MWm to the company, equivalent to the consumption of 75 thousand homes. Furthermore, the use of clean energy will avoid the emission of 52 thousand tons of CO2 per year.

The PPA (energy purchase and sale contract), which will last 20 years, was already being planned since 2019 by the companies and investments were around R$ 400 million.

Altogether, the photovoltaic complex It will have an installed capacity of 120 MWp, the remainder of which is already in advanced negotiations with other large offtakers.

Comerc expects to reach 1.8 GWp of capacity by early 2024 and already has practically all of this amount committed to partners. Therefore, it already foresees new contributions to the sector for 2025.

“Comerc was responsible for migrating Grendene from the regulated energy market to the free market, years ago. So, our energy transition partnership began even before we signed this contract for self-production of renewable energy”, stated Aderbal Aragão, commercial director of Grupo Comerc.

“This shows how much Comerc's energy solutions complement each other to decarbonize Brazilian companies, as well as aligning us to help fulfill Grendene's ESG agenda, which will use 42% of the productive capacity of our solar park to supply the vast majority of its operational demand”, added Pedro Fiuza, vice-president of Centralized Generation at Grupo Comerc.
