ePowerBay, a market intelligence platform for renewable energy projects in Brazil, released this Monday (24) the list of the 10 largest retail traders in the free energy market, based on May data from the CCEE (Chamber of Commercialization of Electrical Energy).

The following ranking shows the 10 retail companies with the largest number of consumer units:

  1. EDP Smart – 402
  2. AES Tietê Integra – 395
  3. Matrix Com – 155
  4. Copel Com – 136
  5. Comerc Power Trading – 89
  6. 2W With Retailer – 78
  7. Engie With Retailer – 61
  8. CPFL Brasil Retailer – 31
  9. Prime Energy Com – 30
  10. Log Energy Com – 27

The ranking below shows the 10 retail suppliers with the highest volume of average megawatts traded in May:

  1. EDP Smart – 68.3 average MW
  2. Matrix Com – 43.1 MWmed
  3. AES Tietê Integra – 35.6 MWmed
  4. 2W With Retailer – 24.1 MWmed
  5. Comerc Power Trading – 17.4 Mwmed
  6. Copel Com – 14.4 MWmed
  7. CPFL Brasil Retail – 11.6 MWmed
  8. Energy With Retailer – 5 MWmed
  9. Exponential Energy – 4.6 MWmed
  10. Prime Energy Com – 4.4 MWmed

From January 2024 onwards, this market is expected to grow, as all high voltage consumers (Group A) will be able to migrate to the free market as long as it is represented by a retail company.

ePowerBay estimates that up to 110,000 new consumers will be able to join the free market starting next year, with an estimated demand of 13,931 average MW.
