A Wood Mackenzie, a global information company on renewable energy, announced this Monday (14) that top ten global suppliers of inverters photovoltaics dominated 86% of the market in 2022, representing an increase of 4% compared to 2021.

In total, there were shipped 333 GWac in inverters, driven by demands from Europe, Asia-Pacific (APAC) and the United States.

The top five supplier companies – Huawei, Sungrow, Solis, Growatt and GoodWe – shipped more than 200 GWac, corresponding to 71% of total global PV inverter shipments in 2022, marking a growth of 8% compared to 2021.

Huawei's shipments saw a notable increase of 83% in 2022 compared to 2021, while Sungrow's shipments grew by 56% in the same period.

For the eighth consecutive year, Huawei and Sungrow maintain their market leadership, occupying first and second place, respectively. Together, these two companies covered more than 50% of the global market in 2022, leading supply to the APAC region, with a market share of 55%, in contrast to 46% in 2021.

Huawei secured first place with a market share of 29% in 2022. Sungrow, in second place, expanded its market share to 23% in 2022, compared to 21% in 2021. Solis rose to third place in 2022, boosted for your shipments in China.

The eight main suppliers of 2021 maintained their positions in 2022, with only one exchange of positions between Ginlong Solis and Growatt in third and fourth place, respectively. Aiswei and Sofar advanced three positions, joining the ranking of the top ten, occupying ninth and tenth positions, respectively, in 2022.

Asia-Pacific leads inverter market

The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region held half of the global inverter market in 2022, with growth of 44% compared to the previous year, totaling 130 GWac in shipments to the region.

China led the market with 78% of inverter shipments heading to APAC as installations reached historic levels. India maintained its position as the second largest inverter market in the region in 2022, but recorded a 25% reduction in shipments compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, Japan overtook Australia as the third largest market, with 7 GWac shipped to the country, representing 23% year-on-year growth.

In Europe, approximately 28% of the global inverter market was served, totaling 92 GWac shipped to the region. Europe experienced the biggest increase in remittances, with growth of 82% in 2022, as the region aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 under the European Green Deal plan.

In the United States, however, demand represented 13% of the global market, with just 42 GWac shipped to the country. PV-storage hybrid inverters made up 10% of shipments in the region as the US increases integration of solar and storage.
