In this article we will present the characteristics of the Hypontech HPS-5000 single-phase inverter. It is a single-phase on-grid inverter, for photovoltaic systems connected to the electrical grid, with a nominal power of 5 kW.

The main features of the equipment include its compact and robust construction, its lightness and the presence of 2 MPPT trackers.

The presence of 2 MPPT trackers makes the equipment ideal for photovoltaic systems on roofs, which may have modules distributed in gable areas or subject to different shading conditions.

At the bottom of the equipment, shown in the image below, we find a DC disconnector switch (which turns on or off the connection with the solar panels), two MPPT inputs (2 connectors, positive and negative, for each input), connector for the module of Wi-Fi communication, a connection for connecting an energy meter and an AC connector, through which the equipment is connected to the electrical network.

On the back, shown in the image below, we observe the presence of thermal dissipation fins, responsible for exchanging heat with the external environment. The large number of fins allows the equipment to be cooled even without the presence of forced ventilation (with a fan). The absence of a fan is a positive point of the equipment, which operates silently and without the presence of moving parts.

The equipment comes with the following accessories: AC plug (for connection to the electrical network), Wi-Fi module (for monitoring system communication), fixing bracket and 2 pairs of MC4 connectors.

Features of the Hypontech HPS-5000 inverter

On the side of the equipment there is a label with its technical specifications. Let's analyze, next, the main characteristics of the equipment.

Maximum input voltage 600V

This is the maximum allowable voltage at the equipment input. 600 V equipment is widely used in residential microgeneration systems, in which the strings are not very long and typically have between 10 and 12 photovoltaic modules.

Operating voltage range

The MPP (maximum power point) voltage range determines the maximum and minimum quantities of photovoltaic modules that the equipment can receive. A voltage range that starts with a low voltage (80 V in this case) is interesting to allow greater flexibility in sizing the strings in different projects, in addition to allowing the photovoltaic system to generate energy at times of low irradiance (in the morning and at night). end of the day), when the output voltage of the solar panels is reduced.

Maximum input current

The maximum input current is related to the current supplied by the photovoltaic modules when operating at their maximum power point. An input current of 12 A shows that this equipment is already prepared to operate with the new high-power modules that are hitting the market, which have operating currents around this value.

Maximum short-circuit current (Isc)

The value of the maximum short-circuit current is closely related to the previous specification. A photovoltaic module that operates with 12 A at its maximum power point normally has a short-circuit current close to 15 A. Once again, this characteristic of the equipment confirms that it is prepared to operate with the latest high-power modules from the market.

IP65 protection

This specification is associated with the degree of protection of the equipment for working in external areas. An IP65 degree of protection allows the equipment to work exposed to sun, wind and rain. The equipment cannot, however, receive direct water jets (an unusual situation).
