Electricity bills soar, while solar systems become cheaper

Study shows that the price of photovoltaic kits has reduced from R$35 thousand to R$19.5 thousand in five years

While the value of the electricity bill continues to rise over time, a study released by the consultancy and research company Greener pointed out that the prices of solar systems in Brazil have suffered a reduction of more than 40% in the last five years.

The survey shows that, in June 2016, a 4 kWp photovoltaic kit cost the end consumer around R$ 35,080.00, but that, currently, the technology is already sold for R$ 19,520.00.

Reducing the cost of services was a fundamental factor in reaching the price level for solar systems.

On the other hand, the value of residential consumers' electricity bills has more than doubled in the last eight years, according to a survey published by Poder 360. The study shows that the price went from R$ 300/MWh to R$ 602/MWh, between the years of 2013 and 2021.

The news agency reported that it carried out the calculation based on data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) and records of the IPCA (Broad National Consumer Price Index) during the period.

In turn, another study with estimates of the Dieese (Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies), revealed that the electricity bill of Brazilian families accumulated an adjustment of approximately 20% in the last twelve months, between August 2020 and 2021.

New raises

For next year, ANEEL's forecast is that the value of Brazilians' electricity bills will undergo further adjustments due to the water crisis and the activation of thermal plants – a more expensive and polluting source, which is passed on to the consumer. O increase predicted by the entity for next year is 16.22%.

In the first eight months of this year alone, the value of the extra electricity tariff increased four times due to the lack of rain in the country's main reservoirs.

In January, when the current flag was yellow, the extra charge was R$ 1.34 for every 100 kWh consumed. The value remained stagnant until April 30, when the first increase was announced.

Since then, the value not only reached its maximum level but also needed to be revised, with the creation of a new flag, called “water scarcity”. The new feature was announced in August, at a cost of R$ 14.20 for every 100 kWh and will last until at least April next year.

  1. I am very satisfied with our own energy generation, through capture by photovoltaic squares. The negative point, so far, is the so-called grid on, as we still depend on the services of energy distributors. I hope, as soon as possible, that the cost of batteries becomes more affordable, so that we can no longer depend on generators, because currently, if there is a power outage, the grid on system becomes inoperative.
