The EDP Group, the fourth largest renewable energy company in the world, informed the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) that it plans to invest around R$ 10 billion in the generation of solar and wind energy in Brazil by 2025.
Of this amount, R$ 6 billion will be earmarked for distribution, another R$ 3 billion for the solar energy sector and the remainder for transmission. This is the largest contribution ever made by the company in Brazil.
To the Solar Channel, the company highlighted that the investment in solar will be made by EDP Brasil and aims to increase the size of the company's photovoltaic park in the country by more than 20 times compared to 2020, reaching 1 GWp in installed capacity.
The company's investments in solar include both DG (distributed generation) and GC (centralized generation) ventures.
Investments in wind energy are made by EDP Renováveis, another company in the EDP group.
EDP's investment plan in Brazil was the main topic of the meeting between the MME minister, Bento Albuquerque, and the global CEO of the EDP Group, Migue Stilwell d'Andrade.
The meeting took place on Monday last week (14), in the city of Lisbon, in Portugal, and was also attended by the executive advisor for Networks of the EDP Group, Miguel Setas, and the director of Marketing, Communication and Stakeholders from EDP Brasil, Nuno Rebelo de Souza.
