The installed power of solar energy in Brazilian rural areas more than doubled in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. This is what an exclusive survey carried out by Canal Solar showed.

In the first six months of this year, photovoltaic energy on rural properties reached 142 MW of power, an increase of 120% compared to 63 MW from January to June last year.

According to Bárbara Rubim, vice president of GD at ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), one of the reasons for this growth is the synergy between the solar source and field. “Not only because of the possibility of saving on the electricity bill, but because of the synergy that exists. The rural producer is already accustomed to using the field more efficiently, and sees that in addition to using the land for planting, he can use it to install a photovoltaic system and generate energy, enhancing the use of his property”, he explained. Barbarian.

For her, another factor that explains this growth is the fact that rural consumers have access to the best financing lines for purchasing a photovoltaic system. “For this consumer, it is already a possibility to replace the electricity bill with the financing installment. He can make the investment without it weighing more on the budget.”

According to ABSOLAR, investments in solar energy on rural properties already exceed R$ 1.7 billion in Brazil. Rural producers are currently responsible for 12% of the installed power in photovoltaic distributed generation in the country.

More data

The survey also showed that from January to June 2020, the Southeast was the region with the highest installed solar energy capacity in rural areas, with 67 MW. Compared to the same period last year, power, which was 17 MW in 2019, quadrupled.

In second comes the South, with 37 MW of power (2019 – 27 MW), and in third is the Central-West, with 26 MW (2019 – 15 MW).

Small consumers

The research points to a predominance of small consumers adopting solar energy. In total, 95% of the 6,385 rural consumer units that installed solar energy are low voltage.

The survey was carried out according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

Solar energy is gaining more and more support on farms

A Photovoltaic energy has attracted companies from different sectors who are looking to invest in a sustainable and economical way of generating electricity. As is the case with the RVM Group, which installed a 379.5 kWp photovoltaic plant at Fazenda Monte Alto, in Guaxupé (MG), providing electricity bill savings of R$ 35 thousand per month, as reported on Canal Solar.

Harvest Plan 2020-2021

The expansion of resources from the Inovagro financing line, announced in June by MAPA (Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply) during the launch of the 2020-2021 Harvest Plan, will further boost the use of photovoltaic solar energy by rural producers in Brazil, as reported on Canal Solar.

In total, around R$ 2 billion will be allocated to innovation projects in the field, an increase of 33.3% compared to the previous period.
